Disassembly of furniture

Disassembly of furniture

Most modern furniture, such as you can buy at an IKEA store or custom-made, must be disassembled for transportation. You should do that carefully!

When disassembling furniture for transportation, there are 3 things to keep in mind.

  1. Disassembled furniture can be partially damaged during transportation.
  2. Fasteners and fittings left during disassembly may damage other parts of the furniture.
  3. Unwrapped and not disassembled furniture suffers during transportation, loading, and unloading

IN WHAT CASES DO YOU NEED TO DISASSEMBLE FURNITURE?

To transport large furniture, such as a sliding wardrobe, an L-shaped sectional couch, a queen or king-size bed, a corner wardrobe, disassembly is needed. It is also required when the furniture is hard to be taken out when assembled: it does not pass through doorways, and fit into the elevator, or occupies a lot of space.

Dismantling a kitchen unit does not require disassembling each cabinet. It is enough to disassemble the kitchen into modules and pack each module. In some cases, you will have to disassemble the furniture wall. Some of them also do not require complete disassembly. Dismantling takes place only on modules and their subsequent packing. Most modern walls require partial disassembly of some modules since they do not pass through the door.

HOW TO DISASSEMBLE FURNITURE?

Disassembly of furniture should take place in a space free from things and other objects.

First of all, we recommend you mark everything. Masking tape and a regular marker work very well for marking. A piece of masking tape must be glued to each detail and numbered with a marker.

Further, if it is a sliding wardrobe or corner wardrobe, it is necessary to dismantle the rear wall. As a rule, the wall is made of hardboard and fixed to the cabinet with nails, staples, or screws. It is necessary to remove the back wall and dismantle all nails, staples, or screws.

The next step is to lay the furniture in a horizontal position. This operation is needed for 2 reasons.

Most of the furniture in this position is more convenient and quicker to disassemble, and in some situations, the cabinet cannot be fully disassembled in a vertical position, since the top and bottom are fixed on screws, which can only be unscrewed when the cabinet is horizontal.
